About the event
The Oktoberfest is a Volksfest, a traditional German festival, held annually in Munich with around six million people from around the world attending. Luckily, Zurich offers a smaller version held in Bauschänzli (near Bürkliplatz on the Zurich lake) if you want to spare the six-hour train ride. The Zürcher Oktoberfest is held from the 10th of October to the 9th of November. If you're new to the German-speaking world, you have to try the traditional German beer served one-liter glasses as well as the buttery pretzels, sausages, and händl (grilled chicken).
The atmosphere in the Oktoberfest tent is always lively and joyful, with around 800 people attending at the busiest times. If you want to grab a spot before it gets too hectic, reserve a table with friends! It costs around CHF 50.
The official dress code for men is usually Lederhosen (brown suede pants with suspenders), and Dirndl dresses for the women. They offer live music Monday to Thursday from 17.00 - 22.45, on Fridays and Saturdays from 13.00 - 15.00 / 17.00 - 22.45, and on Sundays from 11.00 - 17.45.
