For ten days each fall, Zurich turns into a mini-Hollywood. The city with the world's highest cinema density has an annual film festival which has just celebrated its 15th anniversary. Established and successful filmmakers from all around the world fly in to promote exchanges of creativity between filmmakers, celebrities, and the audience. For all you movie-lovers out there, this might be the event for you!
Of course, we couldn’t forget the major prizes and competitions that exist. In three international competitions (“International Feature”, “International Documentary Film”, and “Focus Switzerland, Germany, Austria”), filmmakers compete for the main prize, the Golden Eye. As well as the competitions, the hottest movies are presented as exclusive Gala Premieres and Special Screenings. During of the biggest galas this year, Kristen Stewart came to present "Seberg", a blockbuster she stars in alongside Jack O'Connell, Vince Vaughn, and Anthony Mackie.
In 2018, the ZFF attracted approximately 104'000 cinemagoers and more than 1500 accredited journalists and media professionals from around the world. Since this is being held in Switzerland there is also a section called the “New World View”, which focuses on contemporary and regional films from Switzerland. This is a great opportunity to get a peek of how Switzerland looks like.
Hollywood stars such as Johnny Depp and Jake Gyllenhaal have already walked the infamous green carpet in front of Zürich's Corso movie theatre. You could be the next lucky guest who gets to see and - if you're lucky - get a selfie with some of the celebrities. We can say it is a glamorous event suited for people who have some interest in the film industry and like some champagne-filled fun.
